Accounting and Finance

How to effectively acquire and invest capital

In light of the ongoing professionalisation of the sports business industry, fundamental accounting and financial expertise will be essential for the leaders of the future. This expertise is developed during the Excellence Program “Accounting and Finance”. Students gain insights into how balance sheets, profit and loss statements and cash flow statements work, and learn to interpret these using key performance indicators. The module outlines the roles of different sources of funding and the financial valuation of projects. Students work in small groups to apply valuation methods to determine the contribution of their own projects to corporate performance.

Sample questions:

  • How can I examine the financial statements of my competitors/customers?
  • How can I determine what financing is right for my company?
  • How can I ensure that my project contributes to the company’s success?

Guiding Lecturer

Prof. Dr. Christian Andres

Christian’s research interests lie in the fields of capital and ownership structures – a topic that he already considered at previous stages in his career, among others at universities in Mannheim and Florida. Countless prizes and awards for his teaching confirm that he understands how to impart complex issues clearly like virtually no one else. It is not least for this reason that companies such as Bayer and Postbank have trusted in his advice for many years now. Christian will provide SPOAC students with the tools to evaluate their own projects and to quantify the implications for their company’s success.
