Prof. Dr. Simon Chadwick

One of the world’s most influential thinkers (Huffington Post) and the British “guru” of sports management (The Times), Simon’s teaching interests lie in the fields of sports marketing and sponsorship. Besides lecturing at universities in London, Leeds and Coventry, he is also the publisher of a number of sports science journals and an advisor, among others for UEFA, FC Barcelona, the Organising Committee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and the European Commission. He is known to the wider public through his contributions to international media, such as the New York Times, Der Spiegel and Al Jazeera.

Prof. Dr. Sascha L. Schmidt

Sascha is the Academic Director of SPOAC – Sport Business Academy and the Director of the Center for Sports and Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. He is thus able to ensure that the program contents at SPOAC are always in line with the latest state of research. As a former McKinsey consultant and entrepreneur, his focus is firmly fixed on practical applications. He has conducted scientific studies in collaboration with the German Football League (DFL), German Football Association (DFB) and countless Bundesliga clubs. During his time at Harvard Business School, he deepened his knowledge of case study-based teaching methods, which constitute an essential component of the participant-focused learning concept at SPOAC.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Hienerth

Christoph embodies entrepreneurship, his field of research, in all its facets like virtually no one else. As an active athlete, he was at the forefront of developing new sporting disciplines such as inline hockey and freestyle kayaking, and amassed titles and rankings at national and international level. Besides his teaching activities at WHU and other renowned institutions (including in Vienna, Copenhagen, Harvard Business School, and MIT) and consulting projects for companies such as Siemens and Deutsche Telekom, Christoph has also gained entrepreneurial experience first-hand – as the winner of the “2014 Start-Up Slam”, for example. Christoph incorporates this experience into his teaching, and helps the participants develop their own project ideas using the latest tools and techniques.

Prof. Dr. Jochen Menges

As holder of the Chair of Leadership and Human Resources Management at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, Jochen primarily focuses on success factors for effective leadership and the role of emotions in organisational life. His research with a psychological focus on handling complexity, competition pressure and the “war for talent” contributes to the development of new management practices. Jochen works with major international enterprises, such as Google and L’Oréal, in his research, teaching and consulting. Individually tailored content and intensive interaction allows him to prepare SPOAC students for a diversity of challenging situations on their journey to becoming industry leaders, and to help them enhance their leadership skills.

Prof. Dr. Christina Günther

As holder of the IHK Chair of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises at WHU, Christina considers the topic of “Hidden Champions” in her research and teaching. Within this, she focuses on examining long-term strategies and innovation activities in changing competitive environments as well as new financing options such as crowdfunding. She also investigated just these aspects in greater depth during her research at the Max Planck Institute and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. As a passionate footballer, she brings experience of a rapidly developing industry with her, combining this with the latest research findings during her lectures.

M2 | From Idea to Impact - How to act as an entrepreneur and to develop new business models

Prof. Dr. Christian Schlereth

Since October 2014, Christian Schlereth is holding the Professor position for the Chair of Digital Marketing at the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. Prior to his position, he studied Information Systems at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, completed his dissertation at the Marketing Department of the Goethe University Frankfurt and held his Assistant Professor position on Marketing and Electronic Services from 2011 till 2014. In 2009 and 2011, he spent 4 and 7 months as a visiting fellow at CenSoC - the Centre for the Study of Choice at the University of Technology, Sydney.

His research addresses practical issues related to managerial decision making in the context of digital services (e.g. freemium business models). Special emphasis is put on how to employ various price differentiation and preference elicitation techniques and determine optimal (e.g., profit maximizing) service settings.

His research has been publiched by international journals  and awarded with honorable awards. It´s been applicated by National Basketball League Club Fraport Skyliners among others.

Prof. Dr. Ove Jensen

Ove holds the Chair of Sales Management and B2B Marketing at WHU. His focus areas include consultative selling, price management, and sales force leadership. Before his academic career, Ove was the managing director of a consulting company and market research organisation. Today, he supports companies with management seminars and as a project mentor. Over the past few years, over 1,000 managers have participated in his seminars. He is the founding editor of the Sales Management Review, and has delivered keynote speeches at countless sales conferences.

Prof. Dr. Christian Andres

Christian’s research interests lie in the fields of capital and ownership structures – a topic that he already considered at previous stages in his career, among others at universities in Mannheim and Florida. Countless prizes and awards for his teaching confirm that he understands how to impart complex issues clearly like virtually no one else. It is not least for this reason that companies such as Bayer and Postbank have trusted in his advice for many years now. Christian will provide SPOAC students with the tools to evaluate their own projects and to quantify the implications for their company’s success.

Prof. Dr. Stephen A. Greyser

Stephen ist Professor Emeritus an der Harvard Business School, wo er das Sportbusiness als Forschungsdisziplin seit den 1970er Jahren maßgeblich vorangetrieben hat. 2010 wurde ihm für seine Beiträge zum wissenschaftlichen Verständnis des Sportbusiness der „Sports Marketing Lifetime Achievement Award“ der American Marketing Association verliehen. Als ehemaliger Mitherausgeber des Harvard Business Review zeichnet er sich für 16 Bücher, zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Artikel, mehrere Sonderausgaben von Zeitschriften, und über 300 veröffentlichte Harvard Case Studies verantwortlich. Der gebürtige Bostoner ist seit langen Jahren Dauerkartenbesitzer bei den Celtics und Red Sox und ist Mitglied des Auswahlkomitees der Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame sowie verschiedener Aufsichtsgremien von Unternehmen und Non-Prot-Organisationen, etwa des „The Sports Museum“.
